Legit Banana Pudding
No, for real. My daddy was born & raised in west Texas, and that man LOVED banana pudding. If you’re from Texas, then you know that most legitimate BBQ restaurants have banana pudding somewhere in the house, right? Either on the menu or buffet style (lookin’ at you, Hutchins!)
So, every year on my dad’s birthday, which happens to be July 4th, I make this banana pudding. And yes, y’all! For real, this has won banana pudding cookoffs, ok? (is it cookoff or cook off?) Whatever. Try this recipe & lemme know how it goes!

- 4 cups of milk
- 1 box of Nila Wafers
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 16 oz whipping cream or whipped topping
Instructions
Instructions
- Peel and slice bananas into small coins, set aside
- Make both boxes of pudding per package instructions (mine said to mix 2 cups of milk with each package) set aside
- In a mixer, combine cream cheese & sweetened condensed milk and mix until smooth and lump free
- Add the pudding to the cream cheese mixture and mix until combined
- Fold in 8 oz. of the whipped cream until mixed well (homemade whipped cream instructions below)
- In a large bowl, layer the following: Cover the bottom of the bowl with 1/3 of the Nila wafers. Top that with a layer of 1/2 the sliced bananas. Now add 1/2 the pudding mixture for the next layer. On top of that add another layer of Nila Wafers & line the edge of the bowl with upright wafers (YouTube tutorial below). Next add the rest of the bananas and then the rest of the pudding. Add another ring of wafers around the edge of the dish.
- If you have leftover wafers, crush a few to sprinkle on top later.
- top the pudding with the remainder of the whipped cream & sprinkle with wafer crumbs.
- Refrigerate until serving.
Homemade whipped cream
- Using whisk attachment, whip 1 pint of heavy cream 1 tsp vanilla & 2 tablespoons of sugar on high until stiff peaks form.
