From Nona’s Cookbook

My grandparents owned and operated a cafeteria in Albuquerque New Mexico right after WWII when my dad was a small boy. After my grandfather passed away, my grandmother was moved into assisted living near my parents‘ house in north Dallas. When my grandmother died and we were going through her things, I was given the option of keeping either the official recipe book from the old cafeteria which was full of fluffy pie recipes and fancy things like Beef Wellington OR I could have Nona’s personal cookbook which was full of her own recipes as well as recipes from friends and family which she had collected over the past nine decades. I chose the latter. My mom even told me, “Really? You want that one? It’s falling apart.” That was exactly why I wanted it, and it is everything I hoped it would be. Afterall, as it turns out, it too is full of fluffy pies and yes, even Beef Wellington.
